Fastag mandatory for all Vehicles from 1 December 2019

All national highways will soon be equipped with Fastag to get rid of the problem of increasing jams in the country. You will no longer have to stop for tolls on toll plazas on national highways. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari launched the ‘One Nation One Fastag’ scheme at the Indian Mobile Congress. This scheme will be implemented across the country from 1 December 2019. After the implementation of this scheme, any vehicle in the entire country can travel anywhere without paying toll in cash. The government is continuously promoting cashless system and Fastag is the biggest example of this in the transport sector.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has mandated toll payment by digital payment through Fastag on the highway toll plaza from 1 December. If Fastag is not imposed on the motor vehicle, then toll payment will be double charged. If after December 1, a new rule will also be applied on toll plazas, who have not imposed Fastag on cars, then such cars will be charged double charge.

What is Fastag

Fastag is an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) based technology, allowing customers to make non-stop digital toll payments for cash or card payments. The RFID card will be affixed to the vehicle’s windshield. It will automatically reduce the toll charge as soon as it enters the toll gate. This whole process is very fast and allows the vehicle to cross the toll without stopping and without paying time. The toll payment will be deducted directly from the linked prepaid or savings account.

how to work Fastag

Fastag Scheme was first introduced in India in 2014. Which is gradually being applied to toll plazas across the country. The car’s windscreen is fastened and has a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Now as soon as your car comes near the toll plaza, the sensor on the toll plaza comes in contact with the fastag installed in the windscreen of your vehicle. It deducts the fee charged on that toll plaza from your Fastrack account. This fastag installed in your car will start its work as soon as your prepaid account is activated.

How to get ?

You can get such fast ID required for KYC such as PAN card, Aadhaar card, driving license, your Fastag account is created. A passport size photo is also required for this. It can be purchased online from all toll plazas and some banks. Apart from this, you can also buy the toll plaza from Amazon India. According to the official website, a one-time tag deposit can be taken by depositing the amount. It is Rs 200 for cars, jeeps, and vans, while it is Rs 500 for trucks and tractors. You can also get fastag easily from Paytm

Technology will be made mandatory across the country in the coming 4 months to ensure toll collection and reap the many other benefits of Fastags. Apart from this, Fastags will soon be available at petrol pumps. After the introduction of electronic toll collection across the country. Later they can also be used as a card to buy petrol and make parking charge payments

Currently, there are special lanes at the toll gate, known as fastag lanes. Cars with a tag can enter this lane and the toll rate will automatically be deducted from the account associated with Fastag. It can also be purchased at banks, toll plazas and online. The biggest advantage of using Fastags is that the time spent by a vehicle at the toll gate will be reduced. Traffic will also continue to run normally.
